Committee Comments Series - Theresa Seitz

With the continued support of SageLink Credit Union it has truly made the Swartz Creek Idol event grow bigger and better every year. Since the first year Idol began SageLink has stepped up to the plate. They have contributed sponsorship dollars and also have offered helping hands as well. This will be the fourth year SageLink has sponsored the contest. We would like to say “Thank you SageLink Credit Union for your dedication to helping our kids”.

I can remember the first year getting the baby contest, the kid’s games and Swartz Creek Idol contest running, and not knowing if contests are what people would bother with. All I knew was there were not enough events geared towards kids. Even with the help of my friends doing all these things was not easy.  But, after watching the first idol contestant perform, I knew the idol event was priceless. We watch anxious, brave, and nervous kids put themselves out there on the stage and sing their hearts out the best they could.  But, this wasn’t the most exciting part. It was either when we saw kids hear applause and what the judge’s had to say about their performance and their eyes light up or when they exit the stage with a big smile they can’t wipe off their face. They might even have a little extra step in their walk.  This never gets old. Knowing that this contest builds character in the kids in our community is the reason I keep coming back to run it every year. Some kids come back every year with more self esteem and more self confidence then they had the year before. They try to outdo their performance from the year before. Yet still, every year we see new faces come to compete.  Its true Swartz Creek Idol has no affiliation with American Idol, but you will be surprised to see how much talent is right here in Swartz Creek during Swartz Creek Home Town Days.
